Armchair Clausewitzes and snuff porn afficianadoes all over the right-wing blogsphere lost their collective wit last night after Obama laid this story on them:

“You know, I’ve heard from an Army captain who was the head of a rifle platoon—supposed to have 39 men in a rifle platoon,” he said. “Ended up being sent to Afghanistan with 24 because 15 of those soldiers had been sent to Iraq. And as a consequence, they didn’t have enough ammunition, they didn’t have enough humvees. They were actually capturing Taliban weapons, because it was easier to get Taliban weapons than it was for them to get properly equipped by our current commander in chief.”

Right, because (of course) that’s impossible. Dear Leader never makes a mistake, and anyway Obama is a dhimmicrat so he must be lying, right? Any officer who spoke with Obama’s campaign must either not exist or have an agenda, right?

Quick! To the narrative! It must be preserved at all costs!

The “troops”? Meh. Not so much. They play a stock part in the narrative, they either die or don’t, and that’s all they’re good for to the right.

As if scavenging weapons was unheard of! Hell, one of my grandfathers who was in WWII made it through in part thanks to a French version of a Thompson submachinegun that he scavenged from a Nazi dump of seized weapons. I think he found it in La Havre. That makes him a tertiary consumer, or something. Grandfather liked it because it had a higher rate of fire than the Army’s standard Thompsons. Thanks to Army bureaucracy, he was almost sent home with the damned thing.

See? It happens. Now, if the few remaining members of the right blogsphere really were experts in all things military, they’d know that.
